45th Annual Virginia Governor’s Cup,
Junior and Opti Regattas
Saturday & Sunday, August 1-2, 2009
Host and Organizing Authority: Ware River Yacht Club, Gloucester, Virginia CBYRA Sanction #873
Rules: The regattas will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing.
Fees: Governor’s Cup registrations are $30 for single crew classes and $40 for all other classes if postmarked by July 21, 2009. Jr. Sailing Regatta registration is $15 single crew classes and $25 for other classes (ages 17 and under). Registrations after July 21, 2009 require an additional $10.
Eligibility and Entry: ALL CLASSES ARE INVITED TO RACE
Anticipated Governor’s Cup classes of 5 or more boats are: Albacore, Hampton OD, Mobjack, Buccaneer, Mutineer, 505, Flying Scot, Laser. Classes with fewer than 5 boats participating will be grouped with other such classes and race under the Portsmouth rating handicap system (D-PN).
Anticipated Junior Regatta classes of 3 or more boats are: 420, Laser (Full and Radial rigs), and Opti (Opti class will be divided according to Opti International rules based on number of entering boats)
*** All Jr. Regatta participants must be 17 years old or younger ***
Scoring: The Low Point system of RRS Appendix A2 will apply with the following modifications: There will be no throw-outs. One race will constitute a regatta.
Trophies: Governor’s Cup: Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers of all registered classes with 5 boats or more. The top three finishers sailing in the Portsmouth fleet will be awards trophies. The Governor’s Cup trophy is awarded to the winner of the one design class with the largest number of qualified starts in the regatta. The Congressman’s Cup trophy is awarded for sportsmanship throughout the regatta. The Chamber of Commerce Junior Cup is awarded to the top skipper under 18 years of age
Junior Regatta: For lasers and 420s, trophies will be awarded to the top finishers of the registered classes with three or more boats. For Optimists, trophies will be given to the top three finishers overall, for each fleet (red, blue & white) and for overall girls. A participation trophy will be awarded to each participant in the green fleet.
Other Information: Pre-Registration is encouraged. Printable registration forms will be found at www.wareriveryachtclub.com. The Saturday night fundraising dinner will benefit the WRYC Jr. Sailing program. The Hampton Inn (804) 693-9393 in Gloucester will have a limited number of rooms blocked for Governor’s Cup Regatta Sailors. There is a special rate of $79/night for reservations made before July 1st. Camping (no hook-ups) is available on site at WRYC.
