Southern Maryland Sailing Association
Small Boat Program
19-20 September 2009

1. MANAGEMENT
1.1. The Southern Maryland Sailing Association (SMSA) Small Boat Program (SBP) will conduct the
13th Annual Invitational Regatta on 19-20 September 2009. The Race Committee will have the authority to interpret the rules and conditions of the racing. Classes and starts shall be arranged at the discretion of the Race Committee.
1.2. Protests will be handled by the SMSA Protest Subcommittee, designated by the Race Committee.
1.3. The Regatta will be sailed on the lower Patuxent River, off Solomons, Maryland.

2. RULES
2.1. The Regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing, 2009-2012.
2.2. For any class being scored as a one-design class, individual class rules will be in effect.

3. CLASSES TO RACE
3.1. It is anticipated that the following one-design classes will be represented: • Windmill • Laser • Lightning • Buccaneer
3.2. Other classes with at least five (5) registered boats may be scored as a one-design class.
3.3. The Portsmouth (Time-On-Time) handicapping system will be used to score all non one-design classes.
3.4. This event is open to mono-hulls only.

5. RACE REGISTRATION
5.1. Registrations shall be submitted on an official SMSA Small Boat Program Annual Race & Regatta Entry Form (attached).
5.2. Regatta Fees
5.2.1. Registrations postmarked on or before Friday, 11 September 2009, will be $55.
5.2.2. Registrations postmarked after Friday, 11 September 2009, will be $75.
5.2.3. Registration Fess will include one dinner additional dinners may be purchased in advance for $15.00/ea
5.3. The Registration Form and check, made payable to “SMSA”, should be mailed to:

5.4. Registration will be held at the SMSA Club House at 14490 Main Street, Solomons from 0800 – 1030 on Saturday September 19, 2009. Registrations will not be accepted thereafter. Have Fun, Sail Fast

6. EVENT HEADQUARTERS
6.1. The Regatta headquarters will be located at the SMSA Clubhouse, located at 14490 Main Street (a.k.a. Solomons Island Road South), Solomons.
6.2. Regatta registrations will be accepted at the SMSA Clubhouse from 0800-1030 on Saturday, 19 September 2009.
6.3. A competitors meeting will be held at the SMSA Clubhouse at 1100 on Saturday, 19 September 2009.
6.4. The Regatta’s Official Notice Board will be located at the front porch of the SMSA Clubhouse.

7. SCORING
The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A applies. If five (5) races are completed, each boat’s worst score will be excluded from the series score. This modifies RRS A2.

8. AWARDS
Overall class awards will be presented on the basis of 1st for three (3) boats, 2nd for five (5) boats, and 3rd for seven (7) or more boats.
