91 Lasers converged upon Fishing Bay Yacht Club last weekend for the Millenium rendition of the Masters US Championship. 4 light air races were held over the course of three warm sunny days. Thank God there was very little powerboat chop! AMEN TO THAT!!

There were boats from all over creation; including California, Michigan, Texas, Ohio, Utah, Florida, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Germany. Boats arrived all sorts ofways...from one 12 boat trailer, to a trailer towed by a motorcyle, there were even two boats delivered on the stern of a 46' work boat. They came to renew old friendships, to ignite new rivalries, and to partake in the best yacht club food around.

On the racing side of the weekend's activities, Sunset Beach, CA resident Chris Raab successfully defended his title with a scorecard that was invincible (1,8,1,2). In the past year he has won the Masters US Champs twice, the Masters North Americans, and US Sailing's singlehanded championship, the O'Day Trophy. Coming in second was Canadian Joe Van Rossem, a two time winner of the Masters Atlantic Coasts. And Joe also won a free sail at Saturday evening's raffle presented by Chip Johns, President of Vanguard. Top female and 10th overall was Annapolis resident Diane Burton.

Coming soon! (5/19/2008 Jon D)
