Severn Sailing Association hosted it's second Spring Regatta for 2002. 13 Lasers participated in what were fabulous 10-15 knot conditions. The day started out on the light side, with the first race being contested in 10+ knots of breeze. It was a four leg windward leeward course. Nick von der Wense jumped out to the early lead and never looked back. In race two, Ted Morgan got the good start and benefited heavily from a favored left side of the course. Morgan found a stroke of luck when von der Wense made his only mistake of the day - a wipeout at the second windward mark - and cruised on to the victory. The third and final race was the real showdown. The breeze at this point was probably over 15 knots with real confussed seas billowing in from the South. The leaderboard was stacked with Bob Tan and Morgan tied at 4 points each, and von der Wense lurking behind with 5 points - it was anybody's regatta. von der Wense pulled out to the lead and never looked back to take the overall title. Nice job Nick!
