Oxford Regatta

This year's Oxford regatta started out SLOW, with the RC getting off one race on Saturday morning in a fading and brutally shifting breeze. Bob Tan won this one going away, as the rest of us tried to avoid the huge holes and sort out the 30 - 40 degree shifts. After the traditional lunch break, the wind died completely and we waited. Finally around 2:30 the breeze filled in from up-river, and we got off one more "light and shifty" race. This time it was Mike Schmidt taking the win, followed closely by Sean Carroll.

Sunday morning started off with 15 kts coming straight down the river, which moderated to 5-10 kts at the start, with occasional blasts. We got in two races in great conditions, with lots of action at the front of the pack. When it was all sorted out, Sean Carroll came out on top, with a consistent 2-2-2-7 series. Scores were tight among the leaders, with only four points separating first through fifth place. Jeremy Wilson took second, winning no race but sailing very well in all conditions and never finishing out of the top 5. Bob Tan and Mike Schmidt tied for third place, one point behind Jeremy, with Bob taking the tiebreaker on the strength of two first places. Thom Bowen rounded out the top five, with Karen Long top woman in 12th place.
