District 11 Championship

Hampton Yacht Club, Hampton Virginia, hosted the 1999 Laser District 11 Championship. Twenty six competitors drove from as far away as South Carolina, and New York. On Saturday we had 3 races in marginal conditions. On Sunday, the first race was postponed on the shore while we waited for some breeze. Within an hour we sailed out to the race course. We had one more race in light breeze and 2 more races in about 10 knots of wind. On the water, Kemal Muslubas, current Navy assistant coach led the way with an impressive 4 wins and 2 second places. Navy sailors Grant Garcia and Troy Treackar rounded up the top three. Anthony Kupersmith was the first junior, David Schone the first master, and Julia Lillis the first female.
