Fishing Bay Yacht Club at Deltaville, Virginia hosted the 1997
Atlantic Coast Masters Regatta September 6-7. This event
attracted 49 entries including 4 from Florida, 5 from New
England and 3 from Ontario.

Overall winner was Joe Van Rossen sailing a boat borrowed from
one of the club's junior members, while Sally Sharp was the first
lady finisher. Complete results will be in the next issue of the
Laser Sailor. The first three finishers in each category were

Apprentice Master
- Ian Lineberger, St Petersburg FL
- David Schoene, Annandale VA
- James Jacob, Alexandria VA

Master
- Mike Ironmonger, St Mary's City MD
- Terry Clarence, Stevensville MD
- Sally Sharp, Enfield NH

Grand Master
- Joe Van Rossen, Ajax Ontario
- Ed Sherman, St Petersburg FL
- Henry De Wolf, Palm FL

Great Grand Master
- Bob Saltmarsh, Mattapoisett MA
- Ken Robertson, Ajax Ontario
- Bill Bruner, Charlotte NC

A number of other observations are worthy of note. Primarily the
gourmet dinner prepared and served by Chef Alain Vincey who would
probably have done better on the water if he had not spent so
much time preparing a memorable dinner and breakfast. Second the
early arrival of four of the award winners and their immediate
attention to preparing their boats, whether imported or borrowed.
Third very little exercising before going out on the water except
for the NA Class President who may well have already been one of
the youngest and fittest sailors. But most important, and this is
not a new observation, the obvious camaraderie and willingness to
help others both on and off the water which is a characterstic of
Laser Masters sailing.
