Crystal Bowl Regatta

Conditions were ideal for WRSC's Crystal Bowl regatta; temps were near 80 with a solid 10-15 kt breeze most of the day. Thirteen Lasers were on hand, and the racing was close. Eric Dennis led the pack with good upwind speed in the first race, after taking advantage of confusion on the start line due to a timing error by the RC. He quickly followed up with another bullet in the second race, which featured a near photo-finish with Mike Schmidt taking second and Bob Tan third. The third race saw the best wind of the day, with an excellent second reach and some serious planing. There were also some casualties on the downwind leg, as both Eric and Ted capsized (I think!) and Bob did the "wrap the mainsheet on the boom while jibing" thing. Mike took the lead at the second weather mark and held on for the win, with Don Patton second. Eric finished with a fifth, which was good enough to capture the overall series. - Mike Schmidt
