Summer Invitational

The day started out with a steady breeze of 15+ kts from the NW we rigged up on the beach; by the start of the first race conditions had become variable, with 10-15kt blasts in between 5 kt "calm" spells. This made for some interesting sailing as the gusts came down the race course, accompanied by large windshifts. Downwind, things tended to bunch up as the blasts carried the trailing boats along with them. Three races were sailed back to back; Mike Schmidt worked the shifts to his advantage to rack up three bullets, while Andrew Grose and Jeff Cox fought it out for second. The shifty winds made for numerous lead changes on the first beat and some close racing. - Mike Schmidt
