Miles River Annual Regatta

Conditions were light to moderate (5-10kts) for the first day of the Miles River Annual; combined with some big courses this resulted in some long races. Mike Schmidt played the shifty conditions well and showed good downwind speed to post three bullets. Surprise sailor Miko Shioya (with husband Takao babysitting on shore) was in hot pursuit, along with Eric Dennis. At the finish of race 3, the wind picked up and we were able to enjoy a planing reach to the dock. The real action that day took place at the Tiki Bar at Miles River YC, some casualties were noted. All but one sailor (name withheld!) made it out on Sunday for what turned out to be the final race. Wind was light to non-existent at times; Karen Long worked the left side hard and rounded first, followed closely by Mike and Andrew Grose. By the time we all slogged around the course, it was Miko winning with great light air speed; Mike finished second to wrap up the series win. -Mike Schmidt
