West River Annual Regatta

Twenty Lasers were on hand for the WRSC Annual over Labor Day Weekend. Day1 started with mostly light winds and a course tucked into a cove on the West River. This made for some shifty conditions and lots of lead changes. Race 1 was won by Mike Schmidt, leading the fleet from the first leeward mark to the finish. The second race was typical, as Mike S finished 6th and some new faces were at the front. The second day wasn't any cleaner, as a huge left shift in the first race mixed up the standings some more. When all was done, five races were run, five different boats won each race, and there was plenty of suffering all around. It was the kind of day when you would look around you and say "hey, there's so-and-so, I'm not doing that bad"?except you all were hurting?. Joseph Fava sailed most consistently to take 1st place; Mike Schmidt and Dave Schoene (who had a GREAT 2nd day) tied for 2nd with Mike S. taking the tie-breaker. -Mike Schmidt
