Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Championship
- Saturday, September 7th, 1996 - Sunday, September 8th, 1996
- Fishing Bay YC
- Deltaville, VA
The turnout for the post-Fran regatta was a meager 10 boats and there are no prizes for guessing who the FBYC entrants were. The two Davids, Porter and Hazlehurst are guaranteed shows regardless of any atmospheric activity and were ready to go the day after Bertha as well as the day after Fran. And while there may be readers who question their judgment, on this occasion they got in five great races, three on the first day in some 20 knots with lots of downwind capsizes, and two on the second day in much lighter air. And the locals plus seven visitors from as far away as Charlotte and Statesville to the south and Philadelphia to the north, had a great time on both and off the water.
The end result of this two day, five race event, left Dave Porter as the overall Cheaspeake Bay Laser Masters winner with Nicholas Place from Wilmington, Delaware as first Apprentice, our own Dave Porter as first Master, Ken Hopkins from Statesville, NC., as first Grand Master, and Bill Bruner from Charlotte as first Great Grand Master.
