A strong fleet of 21 Lasers hit the water for the kickoff of the 1997 Chesapeake Bay racing season. Temperatures were moderate, but winds were light and shifty for most of the regatta. A strong current across the race course, and the usual Annapolis chop made for trying conditions. We finally saw some wind on Day 2, when clouds and breeze filled in late in the day with 15-18kts for the last two races. A number of us decided that given the cold water and strong breeze the best course was back to the club where the cold beers were waiting. On the water, Naval Academy sailor Dalton Bergan dominated the fleet, finishing no worse than 3rd while collecting 4 bullets. - Mike Schmidt
