Stew Pot Regatta

We had a great day of racing at the Stew Pot Regatta on Saturday. The temperature was in the 80's with sunny skies and after some fluky westerly wind early on, a nice light sea breeze filled in. It has been a very long time since we had weather this nice for the first day of one-design racing at FBYC.
In the first race we did a single windward-leward which included a 180-degree wind shift so it was just about like sailing two upwind legs. Rob Whittemore found more wind than the rest of us on the right side of the course and managed to get around the windward mark before the wind started changing directions.
Despite 2/3 of the fleet wanting to sail outside Stove Point once the sea breeze filled in, the course was reset in the middle of the Piankatank and we continued with two more races. In the 2nd race Jon Deutsch got out in front and stayed there for the remaining 3 laps of the twice-around windward-leward. In the final race, Jon, Rob and Jere Dennison all stayed close throughout the race and all finished within a boat-length at the finish.
After racing everyone was treated to Brunswick Stew, drinks and awards.
