Corsica River Annual Regatta

22 heat tolerant Laser sailors (nicely balanced 11 Full Rigs and 11 Radials) raced on Saturday with a heat index approaching 110 F with high humidity. Thankfully a 5-10 knot breeze held all day. Sunday morning showed that we had lost some sailors (possibly the sensible ones). 17 Lasers hit the water on Sunday racing in a beautiful 8-12 knots. Sunday was a lot more comfortable as the temperature was down a few degrees, the humidity had dropped a bit and the wind was a bit stronger. On the full rig side, RJ Bay (just returned from the Fin North Americans) demonstrated the most consistent speed over the six races. Also of note were juniors Ben Sturmer and Gabe Watson (just returned from the 505 North Americans), both showed moments of brilliance, with a bit more consistency they will do very well.

I cannot comment on the Radial fleet, as they had their own start, except to note that the competition looked tight and of high quality and it looked like they were having a very good time, with lots of smiles and joking despite the temperature.

As in previous years there was a great mix of sailors at the regatta, this year included a pair of young girls (both 10 years old) sailing together on a Hobie, who were having a great time. There was the traditional great party on Saturday night with a delicious dinner and great live music.
