Annual Regatta

West River Sailing Club ran its Annual Regatta over Labor Day weekend. Lasers were a big part of the event with 26 full rigs and 8 radials attending. I'm pretty much at a loss for words when I see attendance figures like that. It's simply fantastic and a strong affirmation of the wonderful work that Carl Berninger and the rest of the West River folks have been doing for the Laser class. Thanks Carl!

I wasn't at the event so I'm not going to offer much commentary. I will say that in the full rig fleet, Tred Avon's Austin Kana showed once again why he is the man to beat this year. He won for the second time (Corsica was the first). Austin, we fully expect you in Annapolis for the District 11 Grand Prix! Very close on Kana's heel was Mike Schmidt (MRSA) who is also having an outstanding season. Mike was just 2 points out of first place. Third overall went to Kelsey Averill (WRSC). Kelsey, you too need to leave the cozy confines of West River and venture 15 miles North for the District Grand Prix. Top female was Jane Schmidt (MRSA) who finished 8th overall in the 26 boat fleet, simply outstanding. Drake Moffatt took top honors in the rapidly growing radial division. Last year you couldn't find much action in a radial, but that seems to have rapidly changed.
