On Sunday, July 4th, FBYC held its annual Long Distance Race. The rather breezy day took its toll on not only the Lasers, but the larger boats as well. One Mobjack returned without its mast up, while a Front Runner snapped its dagger board and nearly sunk with hull damage. The course took the fleet of Mobjacks, Front Runners, Lasers, Laser II, and Flying Scots from Fishing Bay across the Piankitank, around Stove Point and back across the mouth of the river to the entrance to Jackson creek and back again and took roughly 3 hours to complete.

Two Lasers, a Laser Two and a couple fleet members were among the fleet of 20 boats. Jon and Blackwell(?) sailed Lasers while Brad Squires and Caroline Collins sailed a Laser 2. Brad and Caroline finished in the top 1/4 of the fleet, but after the handicap was applied they were narrowly beat out and received 3rd place overall. Jon was the first Laser in 12th and both Jon and Blackwell beat several larger boats on time. After the race everyone enjoyed a cookout and awards.
