Capital City Regatta: DAY #1
March 15th, 2008
We had the skippers meeting at 11am this morning and the weather look absolutely perfect. Temps in the high 50F's low 60F's, bright sun and winds around 16-18MPH. Nineteen boats were registered, and eighteen made it to the course (15 Full rig, 3 Radial rig). We sailed north of the power plant in the river. We got off 3 nice Olympic course races, then the unthinkable happened... The wind started to die down. RC postponed for a few mins to wait for the wind to pick back up and reset the course. A few gusts came down the river and we started race #4.
By the time most of the fleet had rounded the windward mark the wind began to shut off. We then drifted around the course and finished. We again waited a few min before starting race #5, but the same thing happened, the wind picked up for a little bit then shut off. RC wisely called it a day after the 5th race. We had a nice BBQ after we got back to land.
Scores are located
here:
Erich and Robert are tied at 7 points for first place in the Full rig fleet. Sam Dobbs dominated the three boat Radial fleet with 5 bullets.
Tomorrow it is supposed to be 14-16MPH from 11am to around 3pm. Hopefully that will come true, but who knows. We have plenty of left over BBQ and beer, so plan on hanging out for alittle bit after racing tomorrow. It would be a shame if I had to take the left over beer home and drink it myself... See you tomorrow.
