The First Annual Chesapeake Bay Laser Frostbite Team Racing
March 29th, 2008
I don't think we could have asked for a better day to sail our first team racing regatta with our friends out at Havre de Grace. Well, it could have been a little warmer (temps in the 50F's), and maybe slightly less wind (12 to18MPH). But hey we're frostbiters right? We managed to pull together 9 boats that made up 3 teams of 3. HdGYC came out with what I was told was practically their whole fleet of 9 boats.
It was a pretty short trip up 95 (a little over an hour) and we arrived around 10am. Set the boats up and hit the water alittle after 11am. It was a beautiful sunny day, winds were blowing fairly strong but died down slightly through out the day. We managed to get off 5 series of races, 5 races for each team of 3 boats for a total of 15 races.
I must say team racing is very fun, this was my first time, as it also was for most of the other people from out fleet. Very competitive, and very different from fleet racing. I had a great time, and I think all the other competitors would agree. Thanks to Matt and the HdGYC fleet for hosting this event, it was a great success and we will definitely be continuing team racing with them, and who knows maybe we can talk some other fleets on the bay into also participating.
I should get the final scores in a couple days and will post them on the Web site. Thanks to Erich and Robert for co-captaining our team, they did a great job of coaching us first timers.
