Atlantic Coast Championship Results
May 3rd, 2009

Racing on Sunday at the 2009 Laser Atlantic Coast Championship concluded with different conditions on different days with different winners. Unlike the warm partly sunny conditions from Saturday, today’s racing saw a little more wind and dreary rainy conditions.
We had a wide variety of conditions and a great warm-up for the upcoming season said Eric Reitinger.
Today we got in 3 more races. In the first race the wind started out around 5-8 and built to 10-12 as weather patterns blew across the bay. It also meant the wind was a little shifty and the RC had to keep adjusting the course. The sailors who picked the shifts tended to win out. “With such a massive starting line it was important to know which side was favored” said Kevin Shockey.
Before the second race the fleet decided they’d rather have starting practice than race and it took 5 tries to get the race started under black flag. The adverse current didn’t help either. As the race went on the wind and waves built and the fleet spread out over the 5 8/10 of a mile legs.
“I really enjoyed running the races. It’s really fun being associated with the Laser Class” Said PRO Mike Waters.
With a 2 and a 1 in the last two races Evan Lewis won the event. He was followed by Raul Aguayo from the Dominican Republic. Rob Crane finished 3rd overall.
First Woman was Ashley Love from SSA. The Juniors were led by Tom Ramsham. In the Masters divisions Todd Hiller was first Apprentice, Andy Roy was first Master, Roger Link was first Grand Master and John Gebhardt was first Great Grand Master.
“The food and refreshments after racing great” said District 18 sailor Kevin Shockey. SSA ran a fantastic regatta. Event Chair Dorian Haldeman and her volunteers ran a great event.
Results are posted on the Laser Atlantic Coast Championship Website. Severn Sailing Association will host the Radial and 4.7 Atlantic Coast Championship June 6-7.
