Laser NA's and NA General Meeting
July 1st, 2009

Laser NAs was held over 4 days up at Buffalo Canoe Club in Canada. Over 200 boats raced over 44 races. Weather conditions were up and down and all over the place with some storms in between.

Full results can be found here.

The twitter site @nalaser has some pics to see as well.

At the general meeting a few issues came up and were discussed:

- The chairman of the class suggested that the NA class split up to Canada and US. Tracy Usher and the Exec Committee were able to come back and get the vote pushed back till the Worlds meeting up in Canada this year. There has been no compelling reason from the international office as to why but many ideas were brought up as to why it would be a bad thing to do. With luck it won't pass and the class will stay the way it is.

- Ideas for the Laser Sailor were requested. There were ideas like more regatta reports, interviews with sailors, more clubs and sailors doing the spotlight articles that were seen maybe a year or so ago but have run out, and possibly a FAQ to some top sailors. There was also a lot of support to keep the publication in print rather than go electronic all the way. It is available online if people wanted to read it.

- Membership numbers were apparently better than last year at this time. CORK will bring the numbers up higher before the final report to the international class at the end of August.

- Scheduling was brought up. The class added the regatta grid for the next 2 years on the web site. If you want to run an event in the grid, talk to Sherri and you can get it scheduled.

- Intensity Sails and their many replica parts were brought up. It was reminded that those parts were not to be used during class events. Along with this the price of sails and how to bring them down and make them last longer. Laser Performance is doing what they can to try to make them better but maybe not do anything till after the Olympics in 2012. There is also talk that the way the spars are made currently may change. The process costs too much and many companies won't do it that way anymore.

Thanks to Eric Reitinger from District 10 for taking notes and sharing them.
